Scoliosis Exercises

Scoliosis exercises are designed to correct or progress the lateral or rotary curvature of the spinal. They help in a limited way to decrease curve angles by several degrees. The main objectives of Scoliosis exercises are to increase the stability of the back, strengthen muscles, correct muscle imbalance and improve flexibility. When performed regularly, scoliosis exercises can produce larger results.

Scoliosis exercise programs are not enough to prevent curve progression or worsening. It is encouraged in patients for minimizing the potential decrease in functional ability. A number of exercises have been discovered to make the muscles of the shoulders, back and upper back strong and flexible. Exercises alone have no role in the treatment of scoliosis. It is often prescribed for those wearing corrective scoliosis braces. Most programs are initially supervised by physical therapists. Later, they are developed as a daily home exercise.

A series of safe and effective abdominal exercises that strengthen the back and improve posture are leg and arm extensions, back extension, triceps raise, bent-over raise, standing raise, upright row and one-arm row. When a scoliosis curve is progressive and severe, the therapeutic exercises are not a substitute for surgery.

Yoga exercises are very useful in providing relief from scoliosis. They restore the normal shape, function and mobility of the spell. The most effective yoga exercises include passive back arch, crocodile twist, supine knee chest twist, and other trunk and pelvic exercises. These exercises are quite helpful in raising one? S lowered shoulder and decreasing back pain.
